The bulk of my work in recent years has been writing books: guides to popular authors such as Tolkien, C. S. Lewis and the Inklings, and J. K. Rowling; biographies; and popular history. I’ve also compiled poetry anthologies. As well as my own books, I’ve contributed chapters to many specialist books, most of which are studies of C.S. Lewis, Tolkien or the Inklings as a group, but others concern wider issues of culture and belief. Publications in recent years include J.R.R. Tolkien: The Making of a Legend (Lion Hudson), and Amazing and Extraordinary Facts: J.R.R. Tolkien (Rydon Publishing). C.S. Lewis: A Biography of Friendship tells in full the story of his life and work for the general reader. It does this by focussing upon some of the most influential friendships which helped to shape C.S. Lewis’s fascinating life. The A-Z of C.S. Lewis is an encyclopedic look at his life, thought, writings, fictional worlds and characters, and much else! My group portrait called The Oxford Inklings features the circle of friends, including C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Owen Barfield and Charles Williams, amongst many others. With a focus on the concerns of many of the Inklings, Bedeviled: Lewis, Tolkien and the Shadow of Evil was many years in the writing. It explores the theme of devilry, good and evil in the works of Lewis, Tolkien, and others, in the context of the two world wars they lived through.
